While scrolling through Instagram, I came across a series of posts from the account @ecom_mentor. I thought the message was very powerful and many of the insights I’ve personally implemented in my own life and found to be useful.
For that reason, I wanted to share those seven methods here, as an article, and also provide my two-cents.
I also want to note that I’m not being paid or compensated in any way for writing this article. I just thought the message was worth sharing. However, I do want to give credit where credit is due.
1. Workout
This one is massive. If I’m being honest, I often negatively judge people that either don’t work out/exercise or don’t take it seriously. You only have one body and, in my opinion, taking care of it should be a major priority. This is your life we're talking about. Beyond that, I’ve found that exercising plays a huge part in building up your self-esteem and determining what you’re capable of.
Often, I talk to people that ask how they can build their confidence or self-esteem. The simplest way is to exercise more. You’ll feel better physically, you’ll feel better mentally, and you give yourself a challenge that will create a positive feedback loop when the challenge is accomplished.
This step should not be ignored if you want to take yourself seriously.
2. Do What You Say You’re Going to Do
A lot of people in modern times talk shit. That’s the brutal truth. Far too many people say what they’ll do but don’t actually do it. It’s easy to posture and paint a picture of yourself in the minds of others. However, it’s a very different story to actually behave in a manner congruent to how you speak of yourself.
Beyond that, it’s good to be someone that stands by his/her word. As the expression goes: Actions speak louder than words. It’s very easy to say words. Executing upon those words is a different story.
3. Don’t Give A Fuck
Everyone has an opinion about everything. None of that should concern you. I’ve found that no matter what you do, someone will inject their two cents in order to make you feel bad. Even if you’re intent is to do the absolute best thing, someone else will try to drag you down. Break the habit of caring. I’m not suggesting you behave in a mean way towards people or actively abandon anyone. However, understand that the opinions of the world around you should not affect you. Don’t allow the beliefs or criticisms of everyone else prevent you from taking necessary actions.
4. Start Building Your Future
One thing that baffles me is the lack of attention to the future that individuals have. Ask someone about their plans for the future and they’re often baffled. Far too many people live too excessively in the present. Our views are short-sighted. We dismiss the fact that life will likely change for all of us at multiple points in our lives. We don’t allow ourselves to have foresight into what is likely to occur. Think about the future and plan accordingly. Do this with regards to all of the major pillars of life (Health, Wealth, Relationships).
5. Control Your Actions and Reactions
A human that acts based on how he or she feels is not a competent and well-developed human. Your emotions are subject to change at any point. One of the most disastrous types of people are individuals that succumb to his/her emotions on a whim. Imagine a man out at a venue and he feels as though someone is mocking him. If the man is unable to control his emotions, he is likely to lash out at those he believes are mocking him. This could lead to violence and confrontation. Understand that while stimuli can occur, it’s best to pick and choose when and how to react based on a calm mind and logic.
6. Start a Side Hustle
You need money. In the modern era, we often virtue signal and make claims that we don’t need money or that money is evil. However, the reality of the world is that you need currency in order to survive and thrive. While you can arguably use other forms of currency (such as social currency) to accomplish goals and succeed in life, money allots a more straightforward means of getting ahead.
Unless you own a profitable business, have an inheritance, or win the lottery, chances are you seek some level of freedom and you likely don’t like to trade an abundance of time for money. This is why it’s good to start a side hustle. While you shouldn’t necessarily desire to be rich and you likely won’t get rich from this side hustle, it’s good to find a means of earning more money in order to have more freedom. Now, how exactly do you gain freedom from the side hustle? You need to invest into assets instead of liabilities that make you money while not sacrificing your time.
7. Ghost Everyone and Focus on You
Most of the people you know don’t matter. I'm not suggesting they don’t matter as if they’re some inanimate object to be abused. However, what I am suggesting is that most people won’t help you move closer towards your purpose or goals. If you find yourself hoping to accomplish major things in life, it’s probably a good idea to take time to ghost everyone and focus on yourself for a while. Taking a few weeks, a few months, or even a few years to focus on self-improvement can allow you to make massive strides in life. If you need help on any of these steps, contact me. We can discover methods that you can use to improve your life immediately and become a better version of yourself.
