Which is better?
The journey or the destination?
Recently, I had a conversation with a friend discussing the journey we all have as humans and the expected destination.
We discovered that too many people live with their happiness tied to an expectation.
They believe:
“when I get a raise…”
“when I get the guy/girl…”
“when I graduate college…”
“when I retire…” are the scenarios that will lead them towards happiness.
However, I don’t think this is the case and I think such a high expectation on an unpredictable outcome is a road leading straight to disaster.
Why base your happiness on a future outcome when you could simply choose to be happy in the present?
I don’t believe we should be excited for the endgame. We should marvel at scenery we experience en route.
Let’s not make it about the destination and put all of our eggs in that basket. Let’s consider the journey.
